the man on this video is one of those "my way or the highway" elders who has been around since the mid 1970's.. about ten years ago, he hade a major falling out with the kh i was attending, and he moved to another hall where he was welcomed with wide open arms.. he is basically a nice guy, but if someone from the hall made something like this, it is a meeting in the back room for you !.

back in the 70's i had a poster of saturday night fever in my room and i had the riot act read to me about it ( i was 16 then).. .

dear readers of jwn,.

im less than a week here and have read a few articles.

having DA'ed myself, I was expecting all of the shunning from all of the witnesses I knew for the past 30 years.

But the way that they all think that my life would just fall apart after leaving was just a little over the top.

So I decided that the way I would show them "love" would be to get involved in charities/causes/needs, that are helpful to society as a whole.

Then because of doing this, several times my efforts would be published in the paper, or broadcast on TV.

So without "saying a word" I purposely let the jw's know that I did not just dry up and blow away after walking away from their belief system.

And I know from experience that it just throws a wrench into the boe's thought process, perhaps if just one witness sees that life can go on

after leaving they might actually consider moving on themselves.

Tomorrow night I will be giving a presentation at the local city library about my involvement in one of my charitable causes, they really have gone out to let residents know about it, it should be interesting to see if any witnesses show up !!

wow some great comments, it is refreshing to see people actually doing good in other ways beside selling magazines door to door !

But back to the thread, since leaving the witnesses I have become a certified humane investigator for the state. Certified with FEMA to assist with animal rescue and care during disasters.

My dog is a registered therapy dog, we visit nursing homes/hospitals, and schools, and the local "read to the dog" program at the library. There are several elderly people in my neighborhood and I help them with yard care and home repairs.

And I am a guardian for Honor Flight Chicago, we fly WW2 veterans to Washington DC to see the memorial.

this is one of the most emotional, and in a different way a very "spiritual" experience for me, watch the video halfway down the page :

After leaving Jw's did you go into another religion or serv. god ur own way?

i am just curious if you guys left jw's and now worship in some other relgion or worship in your own way?

have you sworn off organized religion ?

if you have not sworn off organized religion then i wonder what relgion seems to be the right one for you guys?

so, i am in my early 20's.

i'm a firefighter, an emt, and hazmat technician (those guys that take care of chemical accidents), and i'm wanting more of a challenge in my line of work.

i've always loved saving people, i keep calm in frantic situations and i love the challenges.

While reading all of the comments listed here, it sort of scared me thinking about how you, a person who has areally great plan for his future needs to be concerned because of a religion and how your relatives will react to your decisions.

If you were going to run off and think of becoming a rock star, I would understand their concern, but for crying out loud, you have some pretty

neat goals set out for yourself.

If you were one of my relatives I would be really proud of what you want to do

paradise-related greetings and meetup plans.

on a couple of jw fb sites, people often say things like "i'll see you in paradise," or "i'm going to travel and meet all of you guys in paradise and hang out with your lions.

" and on the jw news, library, etc.

why is it always lions? personally I would enjoy a horse, peacock, sloth, otter, or koala bear instead of a lion !

Maybe it is some kind of arrogant way of thinking, "hey, I'll be able to control a LION in paradise, forget all of the other animals

living around here.

Saturday Morning Musings ...

one hot, hot thursday, in july of 1987, i worked a half day, drove from wilcox county to mobile county to pick up a sister, then hit i-10 for new orleans to attend the convention which began the next day.. the evening traffic was unbelievable; when i finally arrived and pulled into our hotel parking lot, i was shaking like a leaf in the wind.

we checked in, and after showering, i fell into bed and slept like a drunk person.. the next morning, friday, was a complete blur as we made our way to the superdome.

i don't remember anything that was discussed that day, just the searing heat as we returned to the hotel.. after a long shower, i again fell into a deep slumber.

In the Chicago area, ( at Hawthorn race track) if a brother was an attendant, or working somewhere we were counseled to come back and

sit through another assembly program. The reason for this was because while doing our assignment. ( parking lot, cleaning bathrooms, being an attendant, etc) we were actually missing the golden nuggets that were issuing forth from the platform)

So while taking the time to drive 2 hours in heavy city traffic each way for three days, ( 10 hours driving total) we were guilted into attending another assembly just to sit and listen.

My goodness, reading this actually is making my head spin,,,, why was I such a sucker for this man-made religion ?
